Kinsman is in the midst of an infusion of investment that will surpass $100 million, including a new Anton Grdina K-8, community recreation center, and Cleveland Public Library branch. More than fifty new-construction single-family homes have been built in the Kinsman neighborhood in recent years. Hundreds more units of housing will be constructed as part of Hill Place and the redevelopment of the Garden Valley Estates, both of which are currently under construction.

Many exciting initiatives are underway to provide community members with opportunities for convenient shopping and services, as well as meaningful employment. These include the recently-completed Bridgeport-place, upcoming Kingsbury Crossings shopping center, new headquarters of the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority, and the Urban Tree Farm project.

Retail, commercial, and industrial businesses are emerging to serve a market with an abundance of opportunity rising from a steady influx of new community members living and working in the neighborhood. Kinsman is home to the world headquarters of the Orlando Baking Company, and accomodates several other large industries and manufacturers.

Kinsman is centrally-located, just minutes from Downtown Cleveland, the Midtown Corridor, University Circle, Maingate Business District, and arts, culture, medical, and educational institutions. The community is also in close proximity to St. Vincent Charity Hospital, Cleveland Clinic, University Circle, and the Tremont neighborhood. Downtown is easily accessible via Woodland Avenue and I-490. I-77, I-90, I-490 are all immediately accessible within the neighborhood. Kinsman offers convenient access to the Blue, Red and, Green Line rapid stops on East 55th and 79th Streets. Many bus lines traverse the neighborhood.

Central boasts an abundance of exciting new living opportunities, as hundreds of units of housing have been built over the last decade, and hundreds more are currently under development.

Central is also centrally-located to Downtown Cleveland, the Midtown Corridor, University Circle, Maingate Business District, and the arts, cultural, medical, and educational institutions. Regionally-renown institutions within the community include Cuyahoga Community College Metropolitan Campus, Cleveland State University, St. Vincent Charity Hospital, and Vocational Guidance Services.

Neighborhood Gem

Arbor Park Place is just one of the many exciting recently completed projects in the Central neighborhood. Opened for business in 2005, Arbor Park Place offers conveniently nearby shopping and services in the hearth of Central. This neighborhood shopping center includes a Dave’s Supermarket grocery store, a full-service KeyBank branch, a Dollar Mart general merchandise store, Fashion 216 apparel, You Ask for It soul food restaurant and the El Dorado Barbershop. Arbor Park Place has been cultivated as the town square of the neighborhood and center for community activity. The revitalization of what was formerly Longwood Plaza, led by Neighborhood Progress Inc. and Burten, Bell, Carr Development Inc., the local nonprofit community development corporation, has created more than 60 permanent jobs, increased property taxes more than four-fold and encouraged substantial investment in other areas within the community.

Community Project

Nearly three hundred homes have been built and part of the Villages of Central. Homes range from $145,000 to $250,000 and feature a variety of architectural designs. Several incentives are available, including 15-year tax abatement and up to $20,000 in down-payment assistance.

Parks and Recreation

  • Marion Motley Playfields -25 acre multipurpose park with baseball fields located at Carson Avenue and East 71st. One million dollars has been allocated for their renovation in 2011.
  • Port Park -Spray basin and Basketball courts at Port Avenue and East 73rd.
  • Luke Easter Park - One of Cleveland's most expansive parks located at Kinsman Road and East 93rd. It contains amenities for both active and passive recreation.
  • Otter Park - Includes playground and Basketball courts located at East 83rd and Gill Avenue.
  • Grant Park -East 38th Street and Central Ave.
  • Lonnie Burton Recreation Center-located at East 55th Street and Outhwaite Avenue.
